Pneumococcal Immunisations
Invasive pneumococcal disease (pneumonia, bacterium and meningitis) is a major cause of illness and death. Groups who are at high risk include:
- Very young and elderly people
- Individuals who have had their spleen removed or been told by a doctor that it does not work correctly
- Individuals with other causes of impaired immunity
Pneumococcal immunisation is recommended for these patients and for all patients over the age of 65.
